Title: Portrait of Carlos Bulosan as Pintados
Size: 12 inches by 12 inches
Medium: Fluorescent pigment, digital print on canvas, UV light and 3D glasses.
Date: 2019

Description:
This 3D painting honors activist Carlos Bulosan, author of America Is in the Heart, as an indigenous ancestor called Pintados- a term used by Spanish colonizers to described tattooed indigenous people in the Philippines.
The image of Carlos has been digitally manipulated resembles a facial recognition to manifest a unionized worker under constant surveillance in our contemporary moment. To create the Pintados imagery, fluorescent pigments are painted over digital print on canvas that could only be seen using ultra violet light and wearing 3D glasses.
This work attempts to reclaim the avant garde legacy of creating confluence between indigeneity and technology, in search for metaphysical and supernatural truths.
